About the event

Join us for an enchanting talk on Old and New Edinburgh Christmas Traditions!

Discover the fascinating history behind The Daft Days and the old customs that united Scots around Christmas (once we were allowed to celebrate it).

Listen to some modern poetry about Edinburgh at Christmas read aloud in the Christmas gallery.

Get some ideas on what to do and where to go and with your friends and family. There are big Christmas events, like the University of Edinburgh Old College tree lighting event and the Castle of Light, our history in a son et luminaire show projected onto the castle walls.

Christmas means feasting and presents. Discover how the shops in the city created a festive atmosphere in the past and what people wanted to eat when they went out to celebrate with friends and colleagues.

Nollaig Chridheil! That's Merry Christmas in Scots Gaelic.
